KAT Verderosa is a young intelligent musician that is starting to come into her own lyrically and musically.  Growing up in a musical family with roots in classic rock, classical music, and show tunes, it’s no wonder that her music doesn’t seem to fall into one genre.  She likes to classify her music as acoustic bluesy folk female rock music with clean harmonies like Crosby , Stills, Nash, and Young; sweet melodies like Sarah McLachlin; and the soul of Dusty Springfield.

Kat started out playing Jewel songs at the end of her freshman year of college.  She then graduated to playing some classic rock taught to her by her father and very shortly after that composed a song that very closely resembled “Summer Time,” but with a funky Ani Difranco beat.  Since then Kat has written most of the songs in her repertoire and co-written others with some close friends.  The writing process usually begins with four chords.  Then a melody develops in her head, and eventually she comes up with lyrics.  The songs she is most proud of are “Mama,” a very deep and sad song about things that are going on in today’s world from a different perspective, and “Under One Moon” co-written with her best friends Marc and Jayana.

Early in her songwriting, Kat was inspired by love, but in recent years Kat’s lyrics have been drawn to a more political standpoint.  She’s not through with love, but she now sees that there are other things to talk about.  Don’t be mistaken, she knows that love is the way to peace and happiness, so in each of her political songs you can hear the love that she pours into them, and the underlying tone is, in the words of the Beatle’s, “All You Need Is Love.”

A true performer, Kat loves to be on stage.  She has an energy that makes the crowd smile.  When she sings her sultry version of “Summer Time” the room will stop to listen in wonderment.  She likes to keep the music upbeat onstage to keep the positive energy going.  Kat won’t bore you with stories of how she writes her songs or what the songs are really about for fear of saying something stupid.  She may say something stupid anyway though.  This is always fun for the audience, and it’s all about the fun.

If you are lucky enough to catch her with a full band, she will most likely be accompanied by her best friend Marc Tappan on bass or electric guitar and a new found friend Robert Benson on percussion.  Together they make a smooth, sweet sound.  This threesome has been playing together for only a month and they are completely comfortable with each other and sound like they’ve been together for years.  The boys give Kat the edge that will take her to the top.

Kat plans to share her music and her love of music with who ever will listen to her.  Because she loves to perform, one of her main goals is to play shows as often as possible and eventually do a tour of the US .  Another main goal is to complete her CD titled “Under One Moon” and get it into mass circulation (copies are available at this time).  In her heart, Kat would like to awaken the minds of new listeners to see what is going on in the world and be a part of making a change for the better.  In the end, Kat is not looking for major fame or fortune, just some new friends that appreciate her music and can enjoy what she has to offer because to her  “There’s no such thing as fans, there’s only friends.”
